The world-famous Pop Art artist Andy Warhol also produced his motifs using the screen printing process. For each individual color in the motif, a separate printing template is coated with a light-sensitive photo emulsion (Fig. 1) and exposed to a light source with a specially made exposure film (Fig. 2).

I am a passionate graphic designer and artist from Berlin. My screen printing workshop is located in the beautiful green district of Treptow-Köpenick, surrounded by clear lakes and dense forests. For my recreation, I spend a lot of time in nature with my beloved four-legged friend. On our discovery tours through the biodiverse Berlin countryside, we always encounter numerous animals; large and small. I am particularly fond of the beetles among them. Something that connects me with Alexander von Humboldt. On his travels through America and Asia, the explorer also came across a few of them.
What impresses me most about the little creatures is their great diversity of species – the different shapes and colours. The crawlers are just as colourful, diverse and individual as the people in Berlin‘s urban jungle. It was precisely this aspect that prompted me to express my passion for beetles in an artistic way. And so my colourful city beetles #bigcitybeetle on grey concrete are a homage to the diverse and urban life in a pulsating metropolis like Berlin. To a city that, despite a sea of concrete and sometimes brutalist architecture, is above all one thing: a place that is colourful, open, diverse and worth living in.
